DHS Press Release on H-2B Count

USCIS received 61,747 H-2B petitions counting against the FY05 66,000 cap. USCIS advises that it needs to approve approximately 100,000 beneficiaries to fully utilize the 66,000 H-2B visa cap during a fiscal year, and anticipates imposing, in FY05, a cut-off with exceptions similar to those in FY04.
