DOJ Files Lawsuit to Stop New York’s Protect Our Courts Act
The Department of Justice (DOJ) filed suit against the state of New York regarding the Protect Our Courts Act, a 2020 state law that prohibits federal officers from conducting civil arrests in or around courthouses without a warrant signed by a judge. DOJ asked the court to declare the law, as well as NYS Executive Orders 170 and 170.1, “unlawful and unenforceable” under the supremacy clause. (United States v. New York, 6/12/25)
