SUBJECT: Jurisdiction for Liberia Visa Cases

1. As posts may be aware, Embassy Monrovia's consular section is closed except for emergency ACS service as of May 29, 2002 because of a temporary staffing shortage.

2. Pursuant to 22 CFR 41.101, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Visa Services has designated all of Liberia to be part of Embassy Abidjan's consular district for purposes of issuing nonimmigrant visas. In addition, the Department has authorized Embassy Abidjan to process immigrant visa cases for applicants who are resident in Liberia.

3. Posts should keep a copy of this cable for reference until they have verified that Appendix C reciprocity tables on the Intranet have been updated. Posts are reminded that the reciprocity tables shown in Appendix C on the Intranet (http://CAWEB/RECIPROCITYWEB/INDEX.HTM) reflect the most up-to-date Departmental guidance.
