Subject: Au Pairs Paroled into U.S.
Ref: State 3965
1. For Posts information when the Au Pair J-1 Program expired on September 30, 1995, INS opted to parole into the United States Au Pairs with visas issued before October 1 (as reported in reftel). Specifically, INS granted parole status to the Au Pairs for a period of 90 days from their date of entry, provided they had a valid J-1 visa, a properly endorsed IAP-66, and were otherwise admissible. Approximately 1200 Au Pairs entered the U.S. and were granted such parole status.
2. Au Pairs currently in parole status must apply to INS to convert their status to J-1. INS is not charging a fee for this Service.
