DOS Updates Position on ART and Automatic Citizenship Transmission Upon Birth Abroad

DOS policy on the transmission of U.S. citizenship at birth to a child born abroad and assisted reproductive technology (ART), requiring a U.S. citizen either have a genetic or gestational connection and be the legal mother at the time and place of the child’s birth to transmit U.S. citizenship.
