EOIR Publishes IFR on Reducing the Size of the BIA

4/14/25 AILA Doc. No. 25041432. Removal & Relief

EOIR published an interim final rule (IFR) amending DOJ regulations relating to the organization of the BIA by reducing the size of the Board from 28 to 15 members. DOJ believes that reducing the number of Board member positions would increase the consistency of BIA decisions and facilitate an efficient en banc process, thereby improving the quantity and value of Board precedents. The IFR is effective as of 4/14/25, and comments are due by 5/14/25. (90 FR 15525, 4/14/25)
