Executive Order to Prevent "Birth Tourism"

On 8/6/26, the President issued Executive Order 14419, instructing DOS and DHS Secretaries to adopt changes to prevent "birth tourism"—the purported practice of entering the United States under a nonimmigrant visa or otherwise without permanent status for the purpose of giving birth and thus gaining citizenship for one's child. The order specifies actions including preventing individuals alleged to be engaging in the practice from entering to the U.S. to engage in the practice, revoking their visas, and removing them from the U.S., as well as taking actions against those allegedly facilitating the practice.
