WASHINGTON, DC - This Saturday, June 20, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), in partnership with AILA's Washington, DC Chapter, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington, Ayuda, CARECEN, and hosted by the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, will offer free immigration law services. Dozens of immigration attorneys will be available to answer questions and assess each participant's situation as it relates to immigration.
The event, the fifth Pro Bono Clinic held in conjunction with AILA's Annual Conference, will take place at the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School. At last year's event in Boston, MA, about 40 AILA members from 12 different chapters helped more than 60 immigrants and they hope to help many more at this year's event.
"The Washington, DC, area is both historic and vibrant; it's a place where immigrants have flourished and where the three branches of our government make, execute, and rule on policies affecting immigrants. We welcome the chance to join our partners in offering knowledge and expertise to help families and individuals in the area," said AILA Executive Director Crystal Williams.
One of the lead organizers of the event is D.C. Chapter member Alison Shurtleff, who noted "For those hoping to prepare for the President's announced expanded DACA and new DAPA initiatives, while there is no application method available yet due to the preliminary injunction, pro bono attorneys can help review documents and screen for other forms of immigration relief. In particular, volunteers will also educate attendees about the importance of avoiding scammers and notarios who promise results they can't deliver."
All interested individuals are encouraged to attend this event, including members of the press. Immigrants interested in speaking with an attorney are encouraged to sign up in advance.
