NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) will award Francis Wilkinson, an editor with Bloomberg View, with the 2015 Media Leadership Award in recognition of the individual whose efforts in the media most accurately depict immigration and immigrants. Mr. Wilkinson will accept the award later today during AILA's Annual Conference in National Harbor, MD.

Mr. Francis "Frank" Wilkinson is a member of the editorial board of Bloomberg View, where he writes regularly on U.S. politics and policy. Prior to joining Bloomberg, he was executive editor of the U.S. newsweekly, The Week, and a columnist at TheWeek.com.

Immigration has been a particular interest of Mr. Wilkinson - in the past year he has written more than twenty editorials on the subject, tying the issue directly to the elections and emphasizing its importance in a media outlet that is read by policymakers and stakeholders, along with the wider public. His work over the past year brought important ideas to the forefront through pieces such as "What Are Immigration Opponents Ashamed Of?" and "Republicans Have It Backward on Immigration."

Beyond Bloomberg View, Mr. Wilkinson's essays and articles have appeared in the opinion pages of The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian (UK) and The Los Angeles Times as well as in major publications such as The New Republic, Harper's, The New York Times Magazine and The American Prospect. During the 2008 election, he was a "Campaign Stops" political columnist for the nytimes.com. He is the author of Essential Liberty, a short history of major First Amendment cases published by Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, and contributed to A Global Affair, a book of essays on the history of the United Nations. He has also edited nonfiction books.

Mr. Wilkinson was an original staff reporter at The New York Observer, a regular contributor to the New York weekly 7 Days, and has worked as an editor at The American Lawyer and The New York Times. A former National Affairs writer for Rolling Stone, Mr. Wilkinson is a recipient of magazine journalism's highest honor, a National Magazine Award, which he won in the Public Interest category. He has appeared as a commentator on CBS, CNN, FOX and MSNBC.

Mr. Wilkinson studied at the University of Chicago, the University of Paris and NYU. He is married to actress Sakina Jaffrey with whom he has two children.
