HALT Act - H.R. 2497/S.1380
On July 12, 2011, Rep. Smith (R-TX) introduced H.R. 2497, Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation (HALT) Act. A companion bill (S. 1380) was introduced by Rep. Vitter (R-LA) in the Senate. The bill suspends of portion of the INA authorizing the executive branch to grant narrow protections for individuals with humanitarian concerns or other compelling circumstances.
On July 26, 2011, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement held a hearing on the HALT Act.
