On 10/4/17, the House Homeland Security Committee approved H.R. 3548 in an 18-12 vote, along party lines, to allow the bill to be voted on the House floor, as amended.


On 7/28/17, Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced the Border Security for America Act of 2017, which would among other things, authorize a southern border wall, increase the number of Border Patrol agents, and identify visa overstays.
