Updated Summary of the President’s Immigration Accountability Executive Actions
On November 20, 2014, AILA attended a pair of White House briefings on the President’s planned executive actions on immigration, otherwise known as the “Immigration Accountability Executive Actions.” Later that day, at 8:00 pm ET, President Obama addressed the nation with a framework for his plans, and released a number of Department of Homeland Security directives providing additional, but in many cases still limited, details. On November 21, 2014, the President issued two Presidential Memoranda setting forth additional directives for modernizing and streamlining the visa system and integrating immigrants and refugees into the fabric of our society.
