Get Involved with AILA

3/19/25 AILA Doc. No. 25030605.

Community Participation

AILA offers multiple communities that you can get involved with as early as today. Consider joining an Interest Group, Section or secondary Chapter:

  • Interest Groups offer members the opportunity to connect with other members who share common backgrounds or interests. There are 30 different Interest Groups to choose from!

  • Sections are member communities that focus on specific areas of immigration law practice including Business, Family, Federal Court Litigation, Global Migration and Removal Defense.

  • Chapters help create connections to other immigration law peers in your geographic area. AILA consists of 35 US chapters and 4 international chapters where you can network with attorneys, attend local events, and stay informed on local issues.

Interested in participating in one of these communities? Signing up is easy and fast. Go to My AILA and update your Interest Group, Section and Chapter preferences. You’ll automatically be added to your community’s listserv and you’ll be signed up to receive emails instantly.

Volunteer Opportunities

When you want to take your participation to the next level, consider volunteering for an AILA national committee. AILA national committee members are appointed by the incoming President to serve one-year terms starting in January, based on volunteer interest forms received by the deadline.

Within your volunteer interest form, you can indicate which committee you’d like to be considered for and also let AILA National know if you’d be interested in serving in a leadership level role, including, but not limited to, the Board of Directors, Chapter Chair or Liaison, Committee Chair or Interest Group Leader.

You can find a full list of AILA Committees here

How to Get Started:

  1. Visit aila.org/volunteer

  1. Complete your Volunteer Interest Form and let AILA National know which committees you’re interested in volunteering for

Next Steps:

The 2027 committee selection process will begin in the fall, and applicants will be notified of a decision before the end of the year. It is possible that volunteer opportunities may be available outside of the committee selection process timeframe and therefore, the Volunteer Interest Form is always open and available for submission.
