Client Flyer: Changes to F-1 and J-1 Visa Status—What You Need to Know

9/9/26 AILA Doc. No. 26090903. Students & Schools

On September 14, 2026, the District Court of Massachusetts enjoined the implementation of the Final Rule eliminating duration of status for F, J, and I nonimmigrant visas; therefore, the rule will not take effect on September 15, 2026. AILA will provide updates as they are available.

AILA provides a flyer to help your clients understand the changes for F-1 and J-1 visa holders beginning September 15, 2026, including the elimination of duration of status. The flyer is available as a generic PDF version as well as a Word version you can customize with your firm's information. Please share.

What are client flyers?

The AILA Client Resources Committee provides brief educational flyers tailored for our members to distribute among clients or potential clients. These flyers outline recent changes in immigration law, provide explanations for frequently asked questions, and tackle typical immigration concerns using client-friendly language and visually appealing designs. You can personalize the flyers with your firm's name, then publish them on your law firm's website, share them on social media, or send them directly to clients via email.

Accessible to Public.
