Think Immigration: Lighting the Path to Citizenship: AILA’s 20th Annual Citizenship Day

9/10/25 AILA Doc. No. 25091033. Naturalization & Citizenship

As an organization of immigration attorneys, members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) have helped countless immigrants take the final steps on the path to citizenship. Twenty years ago, AILA itself began organizing and holding special Citizenship Day clinics through our chapters across the country.

This year, on and around September 20, 2025, AILA members and community partners will come together again to light the path and provide guidance and support to eligible lawful permanent residents as they move one step closer to becoming U.S. citizens.

AILA’s 27 participating chapters will do more than just offer a time and a place to get help preparing a naturalization application. They will build trust, strengthen partnerships, and foster community

Preparation for AILA’s 20th anniversary has been extensive, and our chapters have been enthusiastic about getting involved. As part of AILA’s efforts, we have hosted a series of trainings for members and volunteers to feel ready for the big day. These sessions covered topics such as organizing local Citizenship Day events, reaching out to local media, using social media effectively, and learning about the latest policy changes. Our trainings were well attended, with hundreds of volunteers tuning in so they can stand ready to serve their communities with purpose.

At a time when the immigration system feels strained, with enforcement actions spreading fear and attorneys facing burnout, Citizenship Day offers a breath of fresh air. It is a reminder of why many of our AILA members have chosen this profession and an opportunity to give back to the communities we call home. Each naturalization application is a testament to the impact AILA members have on families, communities, and our nation’s future.

Our members time and expertise ensure AILA’s Citizenship Day continues to be 20 years strong. It is our members’ resilience, knowledge, and public service that helps our communities feel more like family. To everyone who has already donated their time, or is signed up to volunteer, thank you!
