DOS Publishes Proposed Rule on Electronic U.S. Passports
DOS proposed rule revising regulations to reflect electronic requirements in U.S. passports, such as defining "electronic passport" and including a damaged electronic chip as an additional basis for possible invalidation of a passport. Comments are due 45 days from 2/18/05. (70 FR 8305, 2/18/05)
HHS Updates Poverty Guidelines for 2005
HHS has updated its poverty guidelines for 2005 to account for last year's increase in prices as measured by the Consumer Price Index. These data are used in determining ability to provide support in connection with the affidavit of support. (70 FR 8373, 2/18/05)
DOS Publishes Final Rule Amending SEVIS Regulations
DOS final rule, effective 5/23/03, adding the requirement that consular officers verify SEVIS-generated I-20s and DS-2019s in the Consolidated Consular Database, and verify the payment of SEVIS fees. The rule also makes Border Commuter Students subject to SEVIS requirements. (70 FR 7853, 2/16/05)
DOL Notice on Mailing Non-Electronic PERM Filings on or after 3/28/05
DOL notice with mailing addresses and designated Processing Center for PERM applications filed by mail, rather than electronically, on or after the 3/28/05 PERM effective date. "Applications submitted by mail will not be processed as quickly as those filed electronically." (70 FR 6734, 2/8/05)
DOS Final Rule with Schedule of Fees for Consular Services
Effective 3/8/05, the Department of State's final rule contains four changes, including the already effective additional exemption to the MRV fee, and three new fees. (70 FR 5372, 2/2/05)

Extension of TPS for El Salvador

DOL Notice of Staff Relocation of Foregn Labor Certification Field Staff
DOL notice that all foreign labor certification processing previously conducted in the Atlanta and Chicago Regional Offices will now be assumed by the corresponding Atlanta or Chicago National Processing Centers. Specific instructions are provided for H-2A and H-2B filings. (70 FR 1473, 1/7/05)
