DOS Interim Rule Amending U.S. Passport Regulations for Minors Under 14

Notice of Extension and Redesignation of TPS for Sudan
DHS extends the Temporary Protected Status for Sudan until 11/2/05. The 60-day re-registration period runs from 10/7/04 to 12/6/04. DHS redesignates TPS for Sudan. The 180-day registration period begins 10/7/04 and will remain in effect until 4/5/05. (69 FR 60168, 10/7/04)

DOL Supplemental Guidance on FY2005 H-2B Filings
USCIS continues to accept H-2B labor certifications with a date of need prior to 10/1/04, but that includes periods of planned employment after 10/1/04. Further, new H-2B applications must be filed with the SWA no earlier than 120 days and at least 60 days prior to need. (69 FR 58961, 10/1/04)
DOJ Publishes Final Rule on 212(c) Relief
EOIR final rule with procedures for filing 212(c) relief for eligible individuals in proceedings or under final deportation/removal orders. Rule addresses criminal convictions resulting from pre-4/1/97 plea agreements reached prior to trial verdict. Rule effective 10/28/04. (69 FR 57826, 9/28/04)
DOJ Publishes Notice of Class Action Judgment in Durnford v. Aschcroft

TSA Publishes Notice to Renew Registered Traveler Pilot Program
TSA announces that it will renew the Registered Traveler Pilot program in 2005. The program operates in five states and involves voluntary submission of biographical and biometric information for expedited inspection procedures. Comments are due on or before 11/22/04. (69 FR 56451, 9/21/04)
Presidential Determinations Relating to Foreign Governments' Efforts Regarding Trafficking in Persons

SSA Final Rule with Requirements for Number Issuance to F-1 Students
Effective 10/13/04, for a F-1 student to get a SSN, SSA will require that the F-1 student provide evidence of authorization by the school to work and that the student has secured employment or a promise of employment, unless the student has an EAD or CPT authorization. (69 FR 55065, 9/13/04)

Correction: Jacksonville Remains Part of US-VISIT

Notice of Redesignation of TPS for Liberia

DHS Adds Six Ports to US-VISIT and Deletes Others
